In a significant advancement for Dubai's real estate sector, Nakheel, part of Dubai Holding's real estate division, has announced a strategic partnership with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) for the development of two substations on Palm Jebel Ali. This AED 270 million initiative underscores the Nakheel DEWA partnership, aimed at bolstering the infrastructure necessary to support the luxury villas being constructed in the area.
The partnership aims to construct two state-of-the-art 132/11 kV substations, which will collectively provide a capacity of 400 megavolt amperes (MVA). These facilities are essential for supplying power to a significant portion of Palm Jebel Ali, including its multiple fronds and spine. DEWA will oversee the project management, including tendering, awarding, and construction processes, ensuring timely delivery alongside the ongoing villa developments.
This announcement follows a series of contracts awarded earlier in the year, which set the groundwork for villa construction, infrastructure improvements, public access roads, and marine works on Palm Jebel Ali. The project is part of Nakheel's vision to establish a premier waterfront living experience that aligns with Dubai's broader economic agenda, D33, promoting sustainable growth and attracting investment within the Dubai real estate market.
Palm Jebel Ali, unveiled by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, represents a transformative urban project designed to set a global benchmark in luxury living. Encompassing seven islands over 13.4 kilometers, the development will feature 16 fronds and more than 90 kilometers of beachfront, poised to become a major residential and leisure destination in the UAE.
Nasser Al Awadhi, Chief Land Estates Officer of Dubai Holding, expressed confidence in DEWA's capabilities, stating, "We are confident that the expertise and skills of DEWA, our strategic partner, in the sector will enable us to lay a strong foundation as the prestigious Palm Jebel Ali takes shape. It is a symbol of Dubai's unwavering ambition to always drive progress and leave an indelible mark on the global stage."
Hussain Lootah, Executive Vice President of Transmission Power at DEWA, emphasized the integration of efforts among Dubai’s organizations to enhance the city's livability. "To keep up with Dubai's continuous growth, we will persist in building a world-class infrastructure for electricity and water, ensuring that these services meet the highest standards of availability, reliability, and quality."
The Nakheel DEWA partnership marks a pivotal step forward in the realization of Palm Jebel Ali as a leading residential and leisure hub. With the planned substations, the project not only addresses the immediate energy needs of the development but also reinforces Dubai's commitment to infrastructure excellence. As Palm Jebel Ali progresses, it is poised to contribute significantly to Dubai's real estate landscape and its vision for sustainable urban development in the coming decades.
